Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove battery and battery tray.
2. Disconnect 19-pin valve body to wire harness connector.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove LH front tire and wheel assembly.
4. Remove inner fender splash shield.
5. Disconnect 2-pin fluid level switch, 4-pin pump motor, 4-pin pump motor relay and 55-pin ABS module connectors. Do not allow brake fluid to come in contact with wiring or paint. If this occurs, rinse immediately with water.
6. Remove low pressure feed hose from HCU reservoir.
7. Disconnect LH front brake tube from hose at hose mounting bracket.
8. Remove two lower ABS assembly mounting bracket attaching screws.
9. Lower vehicle and disconnect five brake tube connections at the junction block. Remove two junction block retaining screws. Do not allow the two upper bushings to turn in the bracket while loosening the upper mounting bolts. Hold bushings with vise grips if necessary.
10. Remove two upper ABS assembly mounting bracket attaching bolts.
11. Remove HCU with ABS assembly.

INSTALLATION

1. Position ABS assembly and place mounting bracket hook through slot in outer frame rail.
2. Lower vehicle and install two upper mounting bolts. Torque bolts to 8.5-11.5 ft. lbs.
3. Raise vehicle and torque two lower mounting screws to 8.5-11.5 ft. lbs.
4. Install low pressure feed hose to HCU reservoir.
5. Connect LH front brake tube to hose at mounting bracket.
6. Connect 2-pin fluid level switch, 4-pin pump motor, 4-pin pump motor relay and 55-pin ABS module connectors.
7. Lower vehicle and install two junction block retaining nuts. Torque to 1.7-2.4 ft. lbs.
8. Attach five tube connectors at junction block. Torque to 10-18 ft. lbs.
9. Install battery and battery tray.
10. Perform system brake bleeding procedures.
11. Install inner fender splash shield.
12. Install tire and wheel assembly. Torque lug nuts to 85-105 ft. lbs.
