Assembly

1. Clean all components with a suitable solvent and use compressed air to dry all parts and clean the fluid passages. Perform the following before assembling:
- Inspect the valves for damage or wear.
- Check for worn or broken springs.





2. Measure the free length of the bypass valve spring, the 2-3 shift spring, the converter relief spring, and the torque converter clutch control valve spring. If not within specification, replace the spring.

NOTE: Do not compress the spring when measuring it with vernier calipers.

Torque converter (TC) clutch valve spring
Outer Diameter (A): 5.0 mm (0.197 inch)
Free Length (B): 30.1 mm (1.185 inch)
Wire Diameter (C): 0.55 mm (0.022 inch)
No. of Coils: 21.5
Identification Color: Purple

Converter relief valve spring
Outer Diameter (A): 8.6 mm (0.339 inch)
Free Length (B): 68.4 mm (2.693 inch)
Wire Diameter (C): 1.20 mm (0.047 inch)
No. of Coils: 27.5

Identification Color: Blue
2-3 shift valve spring
Outer Diameter (A): 7.4 mm (0.291 inch)
Free Length (B): 36.6 mm (1.441 inch)
Wire Diameter (C): 0.80 mm (0.031 inch)
No. of Coils: 12.0
Identification Color: Gray

Bypass valve spring
Outer Diameter (A): 4.9 mm (0.193 inch)
Free Length (B): 30.5 mm (1.201 inch)
Wire Diameter (C): 0.55 mm (0.022 inch)
No. of Coils: 23.0
Identification Color: Blue






3. Install the (D) torque converter clutch valve spring, (C) torque converter clutch valve, (B) stop plug, and the (A) stop pin.





4. Install the (C) converter relief valve, (B) converter relief valve spring and the (A) retainer.





5. Install the (D) 2-3 shift valve spring, (C) 2-3 shift valve, (B) stop plug, and the (A) stop pin.





6. Install the (D) bypass valve spring, (C) bypass valve, (B) stop plug, and the (A) stop pin.
