Spark Plug: Service and Repair

REMOVAL and INSTALLATION

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

2. Remove the distributor-to-spark plug wires from the spark plugs by grasping the spark plug wire boot and lifting while using a twisting motion.

3. Loosen the spark plug with a suitable deep socket, then blow any loose dirt out of the spark plug wires using compressed air.

4. Remove the spark plugs.

5. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Tighten the spark plugs to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb ft). The distributor-to-spark plug wires differ in length and are numbered to prevent incorrect connection.
