AFFECTED VEHICLES
CERTAIN 1995 ESCORT/TRACER EQUIPPED WITH 1.9L ENGINE

WHEN PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING SERVICE PROCEDURE, IF LEAKAGE FROM THE FUEL TANK IS NOTICED, CALL THE RECALL HOTLINE (1-800-325-5621).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Raise and support vehicle.





2. Locate fuel tank heat shield retainer at the left front of the fuel tank. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Remove heat shield retaining nut, then bend heat shield away from fuel tank. See Figure 1.





4. Using tin snips cut off the corner of the heat shield (shaded area) so it cannot be reattached to the retaining stud. See Figure 2.





5. Locate fuel tank heat shield retainer at the left rear of the fuel tank. Refer to Figure 3.

6. Remove heat shield retaining nut, then bend heat shield away from fuel tank. See Figure 3.





7. Using tin snips cut off the corner of the heat shield so it cannot be reattached to the retaining stud. See Figure 4.
