Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
Canister Purge (CANP) Solenoid:
PURPOSE
The Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid regulates the amount of evaporative fuel vapors transferred from the EVAP canister into the intake manifold.
OPERATION
The solenoid operates by an output signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to open the vacuum passage between the EVAP canister and intake manifold when purging conditions are met.
The solenoid is normally closed. When the engine is shut off, fuel vapors from the fuel tank flow into the EVAP canister. When the engine is started, the solenoid opens and purges the vapors into the intake manifold.
