Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
REMOVALCatalytic Converter:
1. Remove the two exhaust inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter nuts and washers.
2. Remove and discard the exhaust converter outlet gasket between the exhaust inlet pipe and the three way catalytic converter.
3. Remove the two three way catalytic converter-to-muffler inlet pipe and resonator nuts and washers.
4. Remove and discard the exhaust converter outlet gasket between the three way catalytic converter and the muffler inlet pipe and resonator.
5. Pry the exhaust hanger insulators from the mounting hooks.
6. Remove the three way catalytic converter.
INSTALLATION
1. Inspect the three way catalytic converter for deterioration and restriction. If necessary, replace it.
2. Position the three way catalytic converter and push the exhaust hanger insulators onto the mounting hooks.
3. Install a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between the three way catalytic converter and the muffler inlet pipe and resonator.
4. Grease the three way catalytic converter-to-muffler inlet pipe and resonator nuts and install the two three way catalytic converter-to-muffler inlet pipe and resonator washers and nuts. Tighten the three way catalytic converter-to-muffler inlet pipe and resonator nuts to 40-55 Nm (30-41 lb ft).
5. Install a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between the exhaust inlet pipe and the three way catalytic converter.
6. Grease the exhaust inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter nuts and install the two exhaust inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter washers and nuts. Tighten the two exhaust inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter nuts to 69-94 Nm (51-69 lb ft).
