M: A/C Clutch Does Not Disengage

Pinpoint Test M: A/C Compressor Clutch Does Not Disengage

M1 Check Refrigerant System
- Perform the Refrigerant System Tests in Component Testing.
Is the refrigerant system performance OK?
Yes
GO to M2.
No
SERVICE the refrigerant system as necessary.

M2 Check [1][2]A/C Relay
- Perform the appropriate [1][2]A/C Relay component test.
Is the [1][2]A/C relay OK?
Yes
GO to M3.
No
REPLACE the [1][2]A/C relay.

M3 Check For Short To Ground
- Disconnect the [1][2]A/C relay connector.
- Disconnect the water thermostat connector.
- Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors.
- Measure the resistance of the "BL/BK" wire between the [1][2]A/C relay connector and ground.
Are the resistance(s) greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to M4.
No
SERVICE the wire(s) in question.

M4 Check Water Thermostat
- Allow engine to cool.
- Disconnect the water thermostat connector.
- Measure the resistance between the "BK/GN" wire terminal at the water thermostat and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REFER to Powertrain Mangement / Testing and Inspection / Diagnostic Routines (Diagnosis by Symptom) for diagnosis and testing of the PCM.
No
REPLACE the water thermostat.
