Ignition Rotor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL and INSTALLATIONCAUTION: Do not attempt to disassemble and service the distributor.
Only the distributor cap, distributor rotor, distributor boot and distributor O-ring can be replaced individually. Other than these components, the distributor is not serviceable.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.
2. Mark the distributor cap towers with the cylinder numbers to aid in installation of the distributor to spark plug wires.
3. Disconnect the ignition coil to distributor high tension wiring and distributor to spark plug wires at the distributor.
Distributor:
4. Remove the two distributor cap screws.
5. Remove the distributor cap.
Distributor Rotor:
6. Pull the distributor rotor off of the distributor.
Distributor Boot:
7. If necessary, remove the distributor boot.
8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
