With Floor Shifter

NOTE: Whenever the shift cable and bracket is removed from the cable retaining brackets for any reason, the cable must be replaced.

NOTE: Whenever a steering column, engine, or transaxle removal is required, do not remove the shift cable and bracket from the retaining brackets. The bracket must be removed with the cable attached.

REMOVAL
1. Remove the console. Disconnect the shift cable and bracket and remove the gearshift lever.
2. Pull back the floor carpet.

3. Remove the cable bracket to dash panel retaining screw.
4. Disengage the rubber grommet from the front floor pan by pushing it toward the passenger compartment.

5. Remove the retaining nut and the shift cable and bracket from the transaxle manual control lever.
6. Remove the cable retaining clip from the cable bracket on the transaxle.
7. Remove the shift cable and bracket from the bracket.
8. Pull the shift cable and bracket through the front floor pan into the passenger compartment.

INSTALLATION
1. From inside the passenger compartment, feed the round end of the shift cable and bracket through the front floor pan.
2. Press the rubber boot on the shift cable and bracket into the body panel opening. Install the cable bracket and the floor carpet.
3. Install the bushing and the shift cable and bracket into the snap retainer on the gearshift lever.
4. Position the shift cable and bracket in the gearshift lever. Install the retaining screws.
5. Install the gearshift lever.
6. Place the gearshift lever in the OVERDRIVE position against the rearward stop. The gearshift lever must be held in the rearward position while attaching the other end of the shift cable and bracket. Position the cable into the cable bracket on the transaxle and install the retainer clip.
7. Attach the shift cable and bracket to the transaxle manual control lever and install the retaining nut.
8. Shift the transaxle manual control lever into the OVERDRIVE position, the second detent from the full rearward position.
9. Place the cable end on the transaxle manual control lever stud, using care to align the flats on the stud with the slot in the shift cable and bracket. Start the retaining nut.
10. Make sure the gearshift lever has not moved from the OVERDRIVE detent, then tighten the nut.
11. Check the transaxle operation in each of the transmission range positions. Ensure the park mechanism and the Transmission Range (TR) sensor function properly.
