Circuit Breaker Module Installation
Taurus/Sable 3.0LNOTE:
If the vehicle is equipped with the jumper harness installed as part of Safety Recall 97S66 or 95S22, it will be removed and discarded. See Figure 3.
1. Record radio preset stations, then disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove and discard the jumper harness (installed as part of Safety Recall 97S66 or 95S22), if equipped.
3. Install the nut removed with the jumper harness back onto the left side of the cooling fan and shroud assembly and tighten the nut to 3 Nm (28 lb-in).
4. CAUTION: When securing the circuit breaker module (CBM) to the fan shroud with the tie strap, be sure to wrap the tie strap around two (2) fan supports only and NOT a fan blade.
Connect the CBM to the cooling fan motor, then connect the vehicle harness to the CBM. Secure the CBM to the shroud with one (1) of the supplied tie straps. See Figure 4.
5. Position the radiator upper sight shield onto the vehicle and install the fasteners.
6. Connect the battery negative cable and set radio stations.
7. Check cooling fan operation.
Taurus/Sable 3.8L
NOTE:
If the vehicle is equipped with the jumper harness installed as part of Safety Recall 97S66 or 95S22, it will be removed and discarded. See Figure 5.
1. Record radio preset stations, then disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove and discard the jumper harness (installed as part of Safety Recall 97S66 or 95S22), if equipped.
3. Remove the wire harness from the retainer on the cooling fan. See Figure 6.
4. Connect the two (2) CBM electrical connectors to their respective wire harness connectors. See Figure 7.
5. Position the CBM onto the upper radiator support and install the supplied nut onto the stud.
Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (88 lb-in). See Figure 7.
6. Route the cooling fan shroud wire harness and secure it in the retainer at the top of the cooling fan module. See Figure 7.
7. Position the radiator upper sight shield onto the vehicle and install the fasteners.
8. Connect the battery negative cable and set radio stations.
9. Check cooling fan operation.
Mustang 3.8L and 5.0L H0
1. Record radio preset stations, then disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. CAUTION: When securing the CBM to the fan shroud with the tie strap, be sure to wrap the tie strap around two (2) fan supports only and NOT a fan blade.
CAUTION:
The CBM for the 3.8L Mustang has one (1) circuit breaker, and the module for the 5.0L has two (2). Make sure the CBM you are installing is for the appropriate engine configuration. If the wrong part is installed on the vehicle, it will fail to protect the circuit.
Connect the CBM to the cooling fan motor, then connect the vehicle harness to the CBM. Secure the CBM to the cooling fan shroud with one (1) of the supplied tie straps. See Figure 8.
3. Take up the slack in the cooling fan shroud wire harness on the right side of the coolant recovery reservoir by gently pulling the harness through the reservoir bracket. Then fold the wire harness over on itself and secure it with the other supplied tie strap as shown. See Figure 9.
4. If equipped, position the radiator upper sight shield onto the vehicle and install the fasteners.
5. Connect the battery negative cable and set radio stations.
6. Check cooling fan operation.
COOLING FAN AND SHROUD ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT
Taurus/Sable 3.0L and 3.8L
NOTE:
If equipped, do not remove the jumper harness installed as part of Safety Recall 97S66 or 95S22. See Figure 3 or 5.
1. Record radio preset stations, then disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the constant control relay module (CCRM) from the upper radiator support and position it out of the way.
3. Disconnect and remove the front airbag impact sensor from the vehicle.
4. On 3.8L-equipped models, remove the wire harness from the cooling fan shroud.
5. Remove the two (2) fasteners securing the cooling fan and shroud assembly to the radiator, then remove the assembly from the vehicle. If equipped, do not remove the jumper harness installed as part of Safety Recall 97S66 or 95S22.
6. Position the new cooling fan and shroud assembly into the vehicle.
7. Install the two (2) fasteners securing the cooling fan and shroud assembly to the radiator.
Tighten the bolts to 3 Nm (28 lb-in) and the nuts to 10 Nm (88 lb-in).
8. On 3.8L-equipped models, install the wire harness onto the cooling fan shroud.
9. Install the front airbag impact sensor into the vehicle and connect the electrical connector.
Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (88 lb-in).
10. Install the CCRM to the upper radiator support.
