Speedometer System Noisy

Applying heavy amounts of lubricant to the cable core will only stop the noise temporarily unless the actual source of noise is found and corrected. If the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) or speedometer head is replaced, ensure that the square drive holes contain a sufficient amount of Speedometer Cable Grease E6TZ-19581-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESF-M1C160-A. If not, apply a 4.6 mm (3/16 inch) diameter ball of damping grease into the drive holes as required.
