Fuel Indication System

FUEL GAUGE
The digital fuel bar gauge contains the following features:
1. Fuel level is displayed on a digital fuel bar gauge using fuel level bars.
2. Fuel level bars are illuminated when the cluster is powered.
3. Increasing fuel level will cause the display bars to illuminate from the E (No. 1) to F (No. 12).
4. Specific resistances correspond to a specific number of illuminated segments.
5. When filling the fuel tank, turn ignition switch to OFF, or else the fuel gauge will lock onto the present (low) reading and show a low fuel level after fuel tank is filled.

DIAGNOSTIC BARS

When only top two and bottom two bars appear on the fuel gauge, these are the diagnostic bars. The diagnostic bars perform the following functions:
1. The diagnostic bars appearing on the fuel bar gauge also have a "CS" or a "CO" displayed.
2. The "CS" display indicates there is a short circuit or fuel pump resistance is too low.
3. FUEL REMAINING is also displayed on power up (DTE will also display "CS" if selected).
4. The "CO" display indicates there is an open circuit or the fuel pump resistance is too high.
5. FUEL REMAINING is also displayed on power up (DTE will also display "CO" if selected).

LOW FUEL LEVEL WARNING
When the fuel level falls below 8.7 liters (2.3 gal) the fuel gauge ISO will begin to flash at a 1 Hz rate.

FUEL SENDER UNIT
The fuel level sensor is combined with the fuel pump to form an assembly and operates in the following manner:
1. The unit consists of a variable resistor controlled by the level of an attached float in the fuel tank.
2. When the fuel level is high, the resistance in the fuel pump module is high and the number of lit bars of the fuel gauge is greater.
