Engine Coolant Temperature Indication System
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE INDICATION SYSTEMEngine coolant temperature indication system consists of:
1. Engine coolant temperature gauge.
2. Engine coolant temperature sensor.
3. Circuitry.
Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
1. The magnetic engine coolant temperature gauge consists of three primary coils, one of which is wound at a 90-degree angle to the other two. The coils form a magnetic field which varies in direction according to the variable resistance of the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, which is connected between two of them.
CAUTION: Do not remove pointers; they cannot be recalibrated.
2. A primary magnet, to which a shaft and pointer are attached, rotates to align to this primary field, resulting in pointer position. The bobbin/coil assembly is pressed into a metal housing which has two holes for dial mounting.
3. There is no adjustment, calibration, or maintenance required for engine coolant temperature gauge.
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
The engine coolant temperature sensor is mounted into the engine intake manifold. The signal sent to engine coolant temperature gauge varies with the resistance of engine coolant temperature sensor, which depends on the engine coolant temperature.
