Final Drive Assembly

DISASSEMBLE

Exploded View Of Final Drive Assembly:

1. Remove No. 16 final drive gear thrust bearing and race from final drive assembly.
2. Remove park gear from final drive sun gear.
3. Remove final drive sun gear and deflector assembly from final drive.
4. If necessary, remove speedometer drive gear, then use a drift to drive out differential pinion shaft roll pin.
5. Use drift to tap out differential pinion shaft.
6. Rotate output shaft to remove two differential pinion gears and two pinion thrust washers.
7. Remove righthand side gear and differential side gear thrust washer from differential case.
8. Push output shaft towards center of differential housing. Slide lefthand differential side gear upward to gain access to retaining ring, then use snap ring pliers to remove retaining ring.
9. Remove output shaft.
10. Remove differential side gear and thrust washer.

ASSEMBLE
1. Inspect differential pinion and side gears for looseness, discoloration, cracks, or excessive gear tooth wear.
2. If removed, install two differential side gear thrust washers, side gears, output shaft, and retaining ring.
3. Tap differential pinion shaft through differential case thrust washers and side gears using suitable soft mallet. Align retaining pin hole in differential pinion shaft with hole in differential case.
4. Install new pinion shaft roll pin using suitable drift. Ensure pin is flush with differential housing.
5. If removed, install speedometer driven gear.
6. Install new retaining circle clip on output shaft.
7. Install final drive sun gear then the park gear.
8. Install No. 16 thrust bearing.
9. Install low intermediate clutch piston and rear planet support with No. 16 race,
10. Install final drive gear thrust onto final drive assembly.
