Displaying and Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to retrieve or clear trouble codes. Code retrieval is integrated into the EATC Module Self-Test. Ford DOES NOT provide an alternate procedure for performing the Self-Test with an NGS or generic tester.

NOTE: Self diagnostics should be run in ambient temperatures of at least 10° C (50° F). Record all error codes displayed during the self diagnostics test.

TO INITIATE THE SELF-TEST
1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
2. Push both the OFF and the FLOOR buttons simultaneously, then press AUTO within two seconds.
3. The test may run as long as 30 seconds during which time the display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window.

2. If no DTCs are generated as a result of the self-diagnostic test (888 code is displayed), determine the symptoms and go to the Symptom Chart Symptom Chart(s) or refer to Diagnosis When Self-Test Indicates No Error Found. Diagnosis When No Errors Found
