This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Ford Motor Company has determined that certain 1995 Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique passenger cars are equipped with right hand rear door window glass that does not conform to an important safety requirement of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 205, "Glazing Materials". Our records indicate that you own one of the vehicles involved.
NON-COMPLIANCE
On some of these vehicles, the right hand rear door window glass may not have been properly tempered. (Tempering is a special glass hardening process). In the event of glass breakage, as, for example, in a collision, the resulting glass particles could be larger in size than permitted by the Federal Standard. The larger fragments may increase the risk of occupant injury in the event of an accident. We urge you to return your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln.Mercury dealer for the replacement of the glass.
REPAIRS
At no charge to you, your dealer will replace the right hand rear door window glass on your car. Dealers currently have instructions and parts ordering information.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
The time needed for this service is about one hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle for one full working day.
CALL YOUR DEALER
Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date and whether parts are in stock.
If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.
When you bring your car in, show the dealer this letter.
If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.
