Stall Speed Test
STALL SPEED TESTCAUTION: Perform line pressure test prior to performing stall test. If line pressure is low at stall, transaxle damage will occur.
1. Bring engine and transaxle to normal operating temperature, then apply service and parking brakes.
2. Connect a suitable tachometer to engine, then place selector lever in Drive range.
3. Press accelerator pedal to floor and observe engine RPM, noting the following:
a. Correct stall speed is 2259-2677 RPM.
b. Do not maintain Wide Open Throttle (WOT) for more than 5 seconds.
c. If engine speed exceeds maximum specified RPM, release accelerator pedal immediately. Clutch or band slippage is indicated.
4. With engine running, place selector lever in Neutral position to allow torque converter to cool before testing next range.
5. Repeat test procedure with selector lever in Reverse position.
Stall Speed Diagnosis Chart:
6. If stall speeds in any range are too high, refer to the Stall Speed Diagnosis Chart for diagnosis. If stall speeds are low, proceed as follows:
a. Check engine tune-up.
b. If engine is tuned properly, remove torque converter and check one-way clutch for slippage.
