9/28/94 THROUGH 10/30/94 (SERIAL # 4271-0000 THROUGH 4303-9999)

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995 MYSTIQUE

ISSUE:
No forward engagement and/or no 3rd gear engagement may be present on some CD4E transaxles built between 9/28/94 and 10/30/94 (Serial # 4271-0000 through 4303-9999). This may be due to a weld condition on the forward/direct/coast clutch cylinder, which results in fluid passage from the forward clutch to the direct clutch. The clutch cylinder and hub weld condition may not be visible.

ACTION:
If extensive wear is observed on the forward clutch and/or direct clutch when servicing a CD4E transaxle built between the dates listed above, replace the clutch cylinder and hub assembly.
