ISSUE:
The servo cover seal has been redesigned and no longer requires the servo cover cap. Due to the revised tolerance of the new servo cover seal, a new procedure has been established for installing the cover into the servo case bore.
ACTION:
If service is required to the servo, refer to the following for the proper service procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. The servo case bore must be cleaned and inspected for scoring caused from the removal of the servo cover retaining ring. Remove all raised burrs in the servo cover bore to prevent damage to the seal lip on the servo cover.
2. If the transaxle is equipped with a servo cover cap, discard the cap and servo cover.
3. Only install a new servo cover (F4RZ-7D027-A) that no longer requires a servo cover cap.
4. To properly install the new servo cover, the Servo Cover Remover/Replacer tool (T94P-77000-L) must be modified. Refer to the Tool Modification and Installation Procedure in this article.
TOOL MODIFICATION AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install a nut with a integral washer (N621943-S2) onto the forcing bolt of the servo cover remover/replacer tool with a permanent thread sealer. Refer to Figure 1. This nut and washer will aid in the installation of the cover.
2. Lubricate the servo cover seal and servo case bore using ATF or petroleum jelly to aid in the installation and prevent cutting of the seal.
3. If the cover will not seat deep enough in the bore to install the servo cover retaining ring, a blunt punch may be used with a small hammer. Gently tap the cover around the outer edge with the punch until the snap ring groove is fully exposed.
