Safety Recall 95S31 - Certain 1995 Model Year Contour and Mystique Vehicles For Installation of Front Seat Safety Belt Anchor Reinforcement Plates
Affected Vehicles
Certain 1995 Model Year Contour and Mystique vehicles built from Job # 1, 1995 through May 30, 1995. A small number of vehicles built from September 4, 1995 through September 8, 1995 at the Cuautitlan Assembly Plant are also affected.
NOTE:
Most of the vehicles affected by Safety Recall 95S31 are also affected by Safety Recall 95S30. Dealers are to complete both recalls, if applicable, before releasing the vehicle.
Reasons For Recall
On some of these cars, the hardware that attaches the front outboard ends of the safety belts to the front seat frames may be cracked or separated. If so, the load that the safety belt could sustain would likely be reduced and could cause a non-compliance to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 210, which requires the attachment hardware to withstand specified loads. In the event of an accident, the protection provided to an occupant by the safety belt could be reduced and risk of injury could be increased.
To correct this condition, a reinforcement plate will be added to both outboard front safety belt anchors on the affected vehicles. In the rare case where a safety belt anchor has fractured and separated, a new safety belt will be installed.
Rental Vehicles
If the vehicle requires new safety belts, Ford Motor Company will pay for a rental vehicle until the new belts arrive and are installed, except for the fuel which will be at the owner's expense. Dealers must stay within ESP guidelines of $25.00 a day.
