Attachment III - Technical Information
Contour/Mystique Seat Belt Anchor Reinforcement Plate KitInstallation Procedures
1. Move the seat completely forward to gain access to seat belt anchor head bolt located at the rear outboard corner of the seat near the floor. Refer to Figure 1.
2. Remove T-50 torx head bolt then pull seat belt anchor plate from seat pocket. Discard any spacers that may be present inside the pocket. Discard the bolt and any shims that may be present under the bolt head.
3. Inspect the anchor assembly. Proceed to step 4 if anchor is not broken. If the anchor has separated, the seat belt assembly must be replaced. Refer to the 1995 Contour/Mystique Service Manual for the Seat Belt Replacement Procedures. Small cracks are acceptable. The reinforcement plate is designed to properly retain the belt even if the anchor is cracked or fractures later during vehicle use.
Any loose parts should be sealed in a bag and taped to the seat belt assembly that has been tagged for return.
NOTE:
Any seat belt assembly removed for replacement should be tagged with the recall number, VIN # and P&A code and returned to The Warranty Parts Return Center, at the following address:

4. Remove the adhesive backing from the supplied reinforcement plate. Position the reinforcement plate onto anchor plate by inserting the tabs of the reinforcement plate into the rectangular slot in the anchor plate, then rotate reinforcement plate into position. Be sure holes in plates are properly aligned then press plates together. Refer to Figure 4
5. Verify that webbing is not twisted and insert the anchor plate with reinforcement plate back into the seat pocket with the pierce nut on the anchor plate towards the outside of the vehicle and the reinforcement plate towards the inside of the vehicle. See Figure 5.
6. Obtain a new bolt from the kit. Place the bolt through the reinforcement plate and finger start it into the anchor plate. Snug up the bolt using a T50 torx head bit then tighten to 38 +/- 8 N-m (28 +/- 6 ft-lb).
