ISSUE:
Reduced acceleration or power during initial driveaway may occur on some vehicles in temperatures below -4°C (25°F). This may be caused by the formation of ice around the throttle plate after engine shutdown in cold ambient temperatures. This may restrict the ability of the vehicle operator to open the throttle after initial start-up of the engine. At present, the EGR valve will operate in temperatures down to -12°C (10°F), resulting in moisture building around the throttle plate. Vehicles with traction control may be especially sensitive to this condition.
ACTION:
If icing around the throttle plate is evident, replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with a new PCM which will only allow the EGR valve to operate in temperatures down to -4°C (25°F). This will reduce the possibility of moisture buildup and throttle plate icing.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
