IGNITION INTERMITTENT ANALYZER HOOKUP AND OPERATION

NOTE: You must perform the Quick Test and follow instructions in applicable pinpoint test steps before starting this testing. Testing and Inspection

1. Key OFF. All accessories should remain OFF during testing.
2. Select the proper overlay and program cartridge to match the ignition system being tested.
3. Install overlay on front panel of tester.
4. Install program cartridge into the slot. Make sure that it is fully inserted.

CAUTION: Damage or driveability problems may occur if the program cartridge is not inserted or improperly inserted.

5. Install the high data rate harness to the tester.
6. Verify that the tester switches, CKP SIMULATION and WIGGLE TEST, are in the OFF position.
7. Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from the Ignition Control Module (ICM) by depressing tab on connector clip. Inspect connectors for dirt, corrosion, moisture, and bent or broken pins. Clean or repair as needed.
8. Hook tester to ICM by plugging male tester connector into engine harness and female tester connector into ICM.
9. Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO). Press RESET button on tester. The tester will perform a self-test every time it is reset or powered up. During self-test, all LEDs will light and a beep will be heard.
10. If the tester fails to perform self-test and VPWR LED is OFF, complete the following test sequence:
- Key OFF.
- Disconnect the tester from the vehicle.
- Connect a jumper wire from VPWR jack to battery + terminal.
- Connect a jumper wire from PWR GND jack to battery - terminal.
- If tester performs self-test, reconnect tester to vehicle and go to Pinpoint Test G1. G
- If tester still does not perform self-test, there is a problem with the tester.
11. If any LEDs do not light or beep does not function during self-test, there is a problem with the tester.

Symptom To Pinpoint Test Chart:

12. If the tester passes the self-test, attempt to recreate the fault:
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- If any LEDs turn ON, go to the appropriate pinpoint test.
- If no LEDs turn ON, crank (5-10 seconds) or start the engine to recreate the driveability concern.
- If any LEDs turn ON, go to the appropriate pinpoint test.
- If no LEDs turn ON, you have not recreated the fault.
13. If all tests pass, return to the diagnostic routines. Testing and Inspection
