Subject:
Safety Recall 95S30 - Certain 1995 Contour and Mystique Passenger Cars - Fuel Tank Assembly Inspection and, if Necessary, Replacement

Affected Vehicles
1995 Contour and Mystique passenger cars built from Job # 1 through April 9, 1995 at Kansas City Assembly Plant and from Job # 1 through April 16, 1995 at Cuautitlan Assembly Plant.

NOTE:
All of the vehicles affected by Safety Recall 95S30 are also affected by Safety Recall 95S31 involving front safety belt anchors. Please check OASIS. Dealers are to complete both recalls before releasing the vehicle.

NOTE:
This recall includes all units affected by Safety Recall 94S97 which was announced in October, 1994. This recall supersedes 94S97. Each affected vehicle must be inspected and, if necessary, the fuel tank replaced even if Safety Recall 94S97 was previously completed.

Reasons For Recall
The fuel filler pipe opening reinforcement (an integral part of the fuel tank assembly) may leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could potentially result in a fire.

To avoid this risk, the fuel tank assembly is to be inspected and, if necessary, replaced.

Video
A videotape which shows the proper fuel tank replacement procedure is included with this package in addition to the Technical Instructions in Attachment III.

NOTE:
THE VIDEO DOES NOT DESCRIBE THE REQUIRED INSPECTION PROCEDURE SEE ATTACHMENT III FOR THE INSPECTION PROCEDURES. Please review BOTH the video AND Attachment III before beginning repairs.
