Safety Recall 94S92 - Certain 1995 Model Year Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique Passenger Cars for Inspection and, if Necessary, Installation of a Fuel Filler Pipe Shield Ground Strap

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1995 Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique passenger cars built from Job # 1 through September 10, 1994 at the Kansas City Assembly Plant.

REASONS FOR RECALL

On some of these cars, a static charge may develop on a fuel filler pipe shield during refueling. This is due to an inadequate ground between the vehicle body and fuel filler pipe shield. This could result in a static discharge during refueling which could ignite fuel vapor in the vicinity of the filler pipe, and potentially result in a fire, To correct this condition, dealers are to inspect and, if necessary, install a ground strap between the fuel filler pipe shield and vehicle body on each of the affected cars.
