Removal

1. Open hood.

2. Connect Rotunda Memory saver 014-R1064 or equivalent.

3. Disconnect battery negative cable.

4. Remove air cleaner assembly.

5. Connect Multi-Port Fuel Injection (MFI) Fuel Pressure Gauge T80L-9975-B to the fuel pressure relief valve on the fuel injection supply manifold. Place the open end of the hose into a container suitable for holding fuel.

6. Open the manual valve on the MFI Fuel Pressure Gauge to relieve fuel pressure. Once pressure has been relieved, remove the pressure gauge and reinstall air cleaner assembly.





7. Remove the rear seat to expose the area of the floor pan covering the fuel tank. Refer to Figure 2.

8. Carefully remove the plastic grommet from the floor pan. Refer to Figure 2.

9. Disconnect [1][2]fuel pump module electrical connector. See Figure 2.

CAUTION
Do not remove the push connect fittings from the pump. The nylon push connect fittings are part of the fuel pump, not the lines. Compressing the tabs and pulling up on the fittings will damage the fuel pump making it necessary to replace the fuel pump.

NOTE:
To disconnect the fuel line fittings from the [1][2]fuel pump module, compress the tabs on both sides of each nylon push connect fitting and ease the fuel line out of the fuel pump module.





10. Carefully compress the tabs on both sides of the white fuel supply push connect fitting while pushing down on the connector and pulling up on the line to ease the line out of the [1][2]fuel pump module. Refer to Figure 3.

11. Compress the tabs on both sides of the red fuel return push connect fitting while pushing down on the connector and pulling up on the line to ease the line out of the [1][2]fuel pump module. See Figure 3.

12. Raise vehicle on hoist.

13. Disconnect and remove muffler and tailpipe assembly from vehicle.





14. Remove the resonator and outlet pipe heat shields. See Figure 4.

15. Loosen the fuel tank filler pipe clamp at the fuel tank.

16. Position a suitable lift under fuel tank to aid in removal.

17. Remove two (2) fuel tank support strap retaining bolts.





18. Partially lower fuel tank to gain access, then disconnect the filler pipe vent tube from the fuel tank, and the fuel vapor tube from the restrictor. See Figure 5.





19. Remove the fuel vapor valve from the grommet next to the [1][2]fuel pump module. See Figure 6.

20. Using Rotunda Fuel Storage Tanker (034-00002) and Adapter Hose (034-00012) or equivalents, drain fuel tank through the fuel vapor valve port.

NOTE:
A new fuel tank contains a new filter and fuel supply line. The old filter and supply line will be removed along with the old tank and discarded.





21. Disconnect the fuel line from the outlet side of the fuel filter. See Figure 7.

22. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe clamp at this time.

23. Lower the tank and remove it from the vehicle.

24. Remove the three (3) fuel tank heat shield retaining nuts then remove the heat shield.





25. Using Fuel Tank Sender Wrench (D84P-9275-A) or equivalent, remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank. See Figure 8.
