J97 - Check HO2S Heater Relay For Short to Power

Heated Oxygen Sensor Connector View:





- Key "OFF".

- Breakout box installed, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) disconnected.

- Disconnect front Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).

- Connect Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM) between the front HO2S signal pin and VPWR (from HO2S heater relay) pin at the HO2S vehicle harness connector.

- DVOM set to measure resistance.

- Observe DVOM for an indication of a fault while performing the following (DVOM will indicate less than 10,000 ohms when a fault is detected):

- Shake, wiggle, bend the HO2S circuit in the portion of harness where it is routed with the VPWR (from HO2S relay) circuit.

- Is a fault indicated?

Yes -- Isolate fault and service as necessary. Remove breakout box. Reconnect all components. Rerun Quick Test. Quick Test Appendix (Detailed Testing Instructions)



No -- For further diagnosis using a EEC-IV monitor box or scan tool, go to Normal Scan Data Values. If an EEC-IV monitor box or Scan Tool is not available, go to J99. J99 - Road Test
