ISSUE:
Powertrain removal and installation procedures require the use of special service tools and equipment. Powertrain removal without using the special service tools may result in the following:
^ Misalignment of the powertrain
^ Excess load applied to the engine support insulators which can cause damage to the insulators
^ Customer concerns of NVH
^ Excess labor times
ACTION:
Refer to the following text for the proper special service tools needed for powertrain removal and installation.
ROTUNDA POWERTRAIN AND SUB-FRAME SUPPORT BRACKET (134-00250) FIGURE 1
The Rotunda Powertrain and Removal Brackets (134-00250) is used to support the engine and transaxle, along with the sub-frame, without applying a load to either the RH and LH engine support insulators (Figure 3) which connect the sub-frame and powertrain. These insulators are designed to handle powertrain rolling conditions during vehicle operation. These insulators are not designed to support the weight of the powertrain. Resting the weight of the powertrain on the insulators may destroy the insulator properties.
POWERTRAIN ALIGNMENT GAUGE
(T94P-6000-AH) FIGURE 2
The Powertrain Alignment Gauge (T94P-6000-AH) is temporarily installed in place of the LH front engine support insulator to set the position of the powertrain to the sub-frame until the hardware is installed. Special care must be taken when tightening insulator fasteners. A two-step torque process is required to avoid pre-stressing the roll restrictors, which may result in NVH concerns.
CAUTION:
WHENEVER SELF-LOCKING MOUNTING NUTS ARE REMOVED, THEY MUST BE REPLACED WITH NEW SELF-LOCKING NUTS OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE MAY OCCUR. AVOID APPLYING ANY LOAD FROM THE POWERTRAIN OR THE SUB-FRAME TO THE LH OR RH FRONT ENGINE SUPPORT INSULATORS DURING REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION PROCEDURES. THESE INSULATORS ARE NOT DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE POWERTRAIN. RESTING THE WEIGHT OF THE POWERTRAIN ON THE INSULATORS MAY DESTORY THE INSULATOR PROPERTIES.
