Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes







NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide procedures to retrieve or clear trouble codes without the New Generation Star (NGS) tester.

1. Turn ignition switch to the OFF position.

Data Link Connector:





2. Locate the anti-lock brake data link connector in the engine compartment on the inboard side of the left shock tower.
3. Connect the New Generation STAR (NGS) tester to the 2-pin anti-lock brake data link connector.
4. Connect NGS tester to 12 volt power source using vehicle cigar lighter socket. If vehicle is not equipped with a cigar lighter or the lighter is inoperative, use the battery adapter cable supplied with the tester.
5. Select vehicle and year.
6. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
7. At first screen, press the trigger to PAGE FORWARD.
8. At the next screen, select DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK. Press trigger.
9. At the next screen, select ABS-ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE. Press trigger.
10. At the next screen, select DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES. Press trigger.
11. At the next screen, select RETRIEVE/CLEAR CONTINUOUS DTCs. Press trigger.
12. At the next screen, press the START button.
13. At this screen, all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will be displayed. Record all DTCs.
14. The diagnostic trouble code index should be used to diagnose the anti-lock brake system. Follow the diagnostic procedures step-by-step in order as indicated. Following the wrong sequence or bypassing steps will lead to unnecessary replacement of parts and/or incorrect resolution of the symptom. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
