TORQUE CONVERTER

The torque converter for CD4E is a four element converter. It contains the standard torque converter elements (impeller, turbine, and stator with one-way clutch), plus a torque converter clutch for increased fuel economy. The torque converter clutch is somewhat unique in that the pressure is controlled from the release side of the clutch.

When applied, the torque converter clutch provides a mechanical link between the turbine and the engine, allowing for direct transfer of power from the engine to the geartrain. The pressure plate of the clutch is released by fluid under pressure between the impeller cover and the clutch plate.
