This article is being republished in its entirety to make reference to figures which follow.
ISSUE:
Beginning with September 1993 production, the 1994 Probe 2.0L has a new electronically-controlled transaxle, the Batavia, Ohio-built CD4E. This transaxle is also used in the 1995 Contour and Mystique vehicles.
ACTION:
Refer to the following article for a general description of CD4E transaxle features and major components. See Figures 1 and 2.
The CD4E has a filter which does not require regular maintenance but should be replaced during any internal servicing of the CD4E.
The chain is 3/4" (19.05 mm) wide.
There is a thermostatic control valve which controls fluid levels between the sump area and the valve body area.
There will initially be exchange units available as a managed change program. Refer to TSB 93-18-10.
