GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The CD4E transaxle is a four speed front wheel drive automatic transaxle with electronic control for:

^ Shifting

^ Converter Clutch Control

^ Line Pressure Control

^ 3-2 timing coordination of the direct clutch release and band apply

^ Coast Clutch Control

The CD4E has a filter which does not require regular maintenance but should be replaced during any internal servicing of the CD4E.

The chain is 3/4" (19.05 mm) wide.

There is a thermostatic control valve which controls fluid levels between the sump area and the valve body area.

The CD4E will be utilized with the EEC IV powertrain control module (PCM). Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) for electronic diagnosis of CD4E will be from the EEC IV test connector, not the MECS connector.

The CD4E transaxle has three gear sets. They are the low-intermediate gearset, reverse/overdrive gearset, and the final drive gearset. The low/intermediate gearset and the reverse/overdrive gearset are combined as a compound gearset.
