^ NOISE - "BUZZING" - NOISY OPERATION OF ELECTRONIC VACUUM REGULATOR (EVR) - 2.0L VEHICLES ONLY
FORD:
1995 CONTOUR
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995 MYSTIQUE
ISSUE:
A "buzzing" noise may be beard from under the hood of the vehicle. This noise may be coming from the Electronic Vacuum Regulator (EVR) and may be due to a flat orifice plate within the EVR contacting the valve seat which creates the noise.
ACTION:
Install a new EVR which has a revised design valve seat. The new EVR should reduce the possibility of a "buzzing" noise. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PERFORM THIS TSB ON 1996 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES AS A VIOLATION OF EMISSION REGULATIONS MAY RESULT.
1. Verify the concern. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EVR. If the noise is related to the EVR, the noise will go away. If the noise does not go away, this TSB does not apply. If the noise goes away, continue with Step 2.
2. Disconnect the vacuum lines and electrical connector (if not already done in previous Step) from the EVR.
3. Remove the two (2) screws that hold the EVR to the bracket.
4. Install a new EVR (F1TZ-9J459-A) in an inverted position (with cap at the bottom of the valve) to the bracket using the two (2) screws.
5. Reconnect the vacuum hoses and electrical connector.
6. Penform the Key On Engine Running test to make sure there are no EGR/EVR system diagnostic codes present.
