ISSUE:
The Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt may slip at the crankshaft damper in wet weather conditions or driving through puddles when steering in parking lots, driveways and around corners on some vehicles. This may cause increased steering effort and the battery light to come on. This may be due to water ingested by the FEAD belt resulting in slippage of the FEAD belt at the crankshaft damper.
ACTION:
Replace the crankshaft damper and FEAD belt. The new crankshaft damper profile was revised to reduce slippage in wet weather conditions. Refer to the 1995 Contour/Mystique Service Manual, Page 03-O1A-14 (2.0L), for removal and installation procedures.
