Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The powertrain control module monitors the voltage that corresponds to the position of the manual shift lever. This information is used in determining desired gear and electronic pressure control pressure.

CONSTRUCTION
The Transmission Range (TR) sensor incorporates a series of step down resistors that act as a voltage divider.

The TR sensor houses the START circuits for the ignition system to allow the vehicle to be started in PARK or NEUTRAL.

The BACKUP lamp circuits, which are closed in REVERSE are also contained within this sensor.
