Differential: Service and Repair
DISASSEMBLEExploded View Of Differential:
1. Remove roll pin, then the pinion shaft.
2. Remove pinions and thrust washers by rotating out of gear case.
3. Remove side gears and thrust washers.
Differential Bearing Cone Removal:
4. Remove bearing cone (speedometer drive gear end) using gear and pulley puller tool No. D80L-522-A, step plate tool No. D80L-630-3, and bearing puller attachment tool No. D84L-1123-A, or equivalent, with legs from puller set tool No. D80L-927-A, or equivalent.
5. Remove speedometer drive gear, then the bearing cone (ring gear end) using puller tool No. T77F-4220-B1 and step plate tool No. D80L-630-3, or equivalents.
ASSEMBLE
Speedometer Drive Gear And Bearing Cone Installation:
1. Install speedometer drive gear and bearing cone (speedometer drive gear end) using driver handle tool No. T80T-4000-W, or equivalent, and a press, and differential bearing cone replacement tool No. T88C-77000-EH, or equivalent.
2. Install bearing cone (ring gear end) using driver handle tool No. T80T-4000-W and differential bearing cone replacer tool No. T88C-77000-EH, or equivalents.
3. Install thrust washers and pinions.
4. Install pinion shaft and lock pin, then crimp lock pin so it may not be removed.
5. Install thrust washers and side gears.
