Rear Lap/Shoulder Safety Belt
The rear safety belts have a three-point design. The RH and LH rear safety belt and buckle are a part of the RH and LH rear safety belt, respectively. The rear safety belt and buckles are mounted to the vehicle structure beneath the rear seat cushion. The rear seat shoulder safety belt extends from a safety belt retractor mounted to the vehicle structure and up to a rear safety belt guide located on the C-pillar. The safety belt is angled downward at the proper angle over the occupant's shoulder and chest to the safety belt buckle. The safety belt then continues through the safety belt tongue to the lower anchorage, on the outboard side. This portion of the safety belt acts as a lap belt.
The safety belt retractors have an inertia-type locking mechanism. When the vehicle slows suddenly during heavy braking, a small weight swings a locking pawl into position against teeth on the harness reel.
CAUTION: Do not disassemble the buckles or safety belt retractors. Always replace the rear safety belts in matched pairs as received. The manufacturer's identification on the label of the retractor webbing must match the manufacturer's identification on the buckle base. Never interchange any part of a rear safety belt between vehicle models. If any part of the rear safety belt must be replaced, always replace the entire assembly. Always replace the entire rear safety belt if the assembly has been subjected to loading by passengers in a collision.
