Disassembly and Assembly






DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove caliper from car.
2. Open bleeder screw and drain brake fluid from caliper through brake flex hose fitting. After draining fluid, close bleeder screw.
3. Remove caliper guide bushing and dust boots.
4. Pry retaining spring off dust boot with screwdriver, then remove piston.
5. remove dust boot and discard boot.
6. Remove piston seal from caliper and discard.

CAUTION: Use plastic or wooden pick to remove seal. Metal tools can scratch or nick seal groove, resulting in a possible seal leak.

7. Remove stopper snap ring.
8. Remove adjusting spindle, stopper and connecting link. Separate adjuster spindle and stopper.
9. Remove O-ring from adjuster spindle, then discard O-ring.
10. Remove parking brake return spring, then operating lever nut and lockwasher.
11. Mark relationship between operating lever and shaft, then remove lever from shaft.
12. Remove seal from caliper housing.
13. Remove shaft from caliper housing, then the needle bearings.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect caliper bore, piston seal groove and piston for cuts, deep scratches and pitting whenever caliper is rebuilt. Piston and piston bore may be lightly polished with crocus cloth. If deep scratches cannot be removed, replace component.
2. Caliper seal groove must be free of deep scratches which would prevent seal from operating properly.
3. Inspect upper guide pin and lower guide pin bushing for wear.
4. Inspect bushing dust boots for damage or poor sealing.

ASSEMBLY
1. Lubricate needle bearings with orange grease included in caliper rebuilding kit.
2. Align opening in bearing with bore in caliper housing, then install needle bearings.
3. Install operating shaft into caliper housing.
4. Install operating lever. Align marks made during removal.
5. Install lockwasher nut.
6. Install connecting link into operating shaft.
7. Install O-ring onto adjuster spindle, then position stopper onto adjuster spindle so pin will align with caliper housing.
8. Install adjuster spindle in caliper by aligning adjuster spindle pins with caliper holes.
9. Install parking brake return spring.
10. Lubricate new piston seal with brake fluid and install in caliper groove, then lubricate caliper bore and caliper piston with brake fluid.
11. Install dust boot in caliper bore.
12. Install piston in caliper bore by rotating piston until seated.
13. Install upper guide pin dust boot, then the lower guide pin bushing dust boot.
14. Install caliper upper guide pin, then the lower guide pin bushing.
15. Install caliper on car.
