Instrument Panel - Replacement
REMOVAL
WARNING: The airbag backup power supply must be depleted before component service is performed. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for the airbag backup power to be depleted.
2. Remove the instrument cluster.
3. Detach the hood latch control handle and cable from the instrument panel steering column cover.
Instrument Panel:
4. Carefully pry out both instrument panel end panels.
Instrument Panel:
Rheostat:
5. Remove the four screws and the instrument panel steering column cover. Disconnect all necessary electrical connectors.
Glove Compartment:
6. Remove the two hinge-to-instrument panel screws and remove the glove compartment.
7. Remove the climate control assembly.
8. Open the instrument panel ash receptacle.
9. Push the instrument panel ash receptacle lid downward and pull the receptacle out of the center accessory console.
Accessory Console:
10. Remove the seven center accessory console screws.
11. Disconnect the radio antenna, radio chassis electrical connectors, and cigar lighter knob and element connector.
12. If replacing the center accessory console:
^ Remove the radio chassis.
^ Remove the cigar lighter knob and element.
^ Unscrew the cigar lighter retainer from the cigar lighter socket.
^ Remove the cigar lighter socket and retainer, the cigar lighter illumination ring, and the cigar lighter protector shield.
Instrument Panel:
13. If necessary, remove the screws and the RH instrument panel.
Steering Column:
14. While supporting the steering column, remove the four bolts and lower the column away from the instrument panel.
15. Disconnect the three radio amplifier electrical connectors, if equipped.
Instrument Panel:
16. Remove the four bolts attaching the instrument panel reinforcement to the front floor pan.
Lower Instrument Panel:
17. Remove the bolts from both of the lower instrument panel mounts.
Instrument Panel:
18. Remove the two bolts from both of the upper instrument panel mounts.
Upper Finish Panel:
19. Remove the screw and the instrument panel upper finish panel.
20. Remove the three bolts that attach the upper instrument panel to the cowl.
21. Pull the instrument panel slightly away from the mounting position and ensure all electrical connectors are disconnected.
NOTE: Use care to prevent any damage to the instrument panel or the surrounding interior trim.
Instrument Panel:
22. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
