Stall Test
STALL SPEED TESTSStall Speed Test Flow Chart:
NOTE: The stall test is used to check for clutch or band slippage and for proper torque converter operation. Engine coolant and transaxle fluid must be at proper levels and at operating temperature. Make sure Throttle Valve (TV) linkage is set properly. Service and parking brakes must be firmly set. While performing this test procedure, Do not hold throttle open for more than five seconds at a time.
1. In each driving range, hold accelerator to floor for five seconds or less to let engine reach full RPM. Record results and let engine run at fast idle between each test to cool fluid. If needle goes beyond specified RPM, some component is slipping and accelerator must be released immediately.
2. Specified stall speed should be as follows:
a. D or 2nd - 1925 to 2275 RPM.
b. 1st - 1925 to 2275 RPM.
c. R - 1925 to 2275 RPM.
3. If stall speed is not as specified, refer to the Stall Speed Test Flow Chart for corrective action.
