Component Tests and General Diagnostics

INSPECT

NOTE: Perform procedure only if one the following components is being replaced during assembly of the transaxle: transaxle case, band assembly, drum and sun gear assembly, servo piston rod, servo piston, and band anchor strut.

1. Clean and assemble servo piston.

NOTE: Do not install seals.

Servo Installer:






2. Install Servo Replacement Tool No. T81P-70027-A or equivalent on piston rod and position piston in case.

Servo Piston Selection Tool Installation:






3. Install Servo Piston Selection Tool No. T81P-70023-A or equivalent and secure in case using servo cover snap ring. Tighten gauge disc screw to 13.5 Nm (10 ft lbs).

Dial Indicator And Bracket Assembly:






4. Mount Dial Indicator and Bracket Assembly and position stylus through hole in gauge disc. Ensure stylus has contacted servo piston, then zero indicator.
5. Back off gauge disc screw until piston movement stops, then read indicator. Amount of piston travel shown on indicator will determine rod length to be installed.

Servo Rod Selection Chart:






6. Select a new piston rod using the Servo Rod Selection Chart. Install piston rod and repeat steps 1 through 5 to verify amount of piston travel.
