Seat Belt Warning Timer: Description and Operation

Safety Belt Reminder
The system incorporates lamp and chime warnings. If driver's safety belt is fastened when the ignition switch is turned to RUN, the safety belt indicator in the instrument cluster will not illuminate.

If driver's safety belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned to RUN, the safety belt indicator will illuminate steadily for approximately one to two minutes as a reminder to fasten the safety belt. If the driver fastens the safety belt while indicator is illuminated, the indicator will turn off immediately.

The safety belt warning chime is grounded by a switch in the LH inboard buckle. The safety belt warning chime will sound for approximately eight seconds unless the driver's belt is fastened.
