Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

2. Loosen air cleaner duct hose retaining clamps and remove hose.

3. Remove idle speed control solenoid shield.

Accelerator Cable:

4. Disconnect throttle cable and Throttle Valve (TV) cable from throttle body linkage.

5. Mark location and remove vacuum hoses at vacuum tree.

6. Loosen EGR tube nut, if equipped, at EGR Valve and exhaust manifold fitting. Remove or rotate tube out of way.

7. Remove PCV hose from tube underneath throttle body.

8. Disconnect electrical connections to intake air temperature, intake air charge and throttle position sensors.

9. Remove retaining nuts from alternator brace and remove brace.

10. Loosen and remove six throttle body retaining bolts.

11. Lift and remove throttle body assembly from intake manifold.

Upper Manifold And Throttle Body Assembly:

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Lightly oil all bolt and stud threads prior to installation.

1. Clean and inspect the mounting faces of the lower and upper intake manifolds.

2. Position new gasket on lower intake mounting face. The use of alignment studs may be helpful.

3. Install upper intake manifold and throttle body assembly to lower manifold.

4. Aligning bolt holes, install throttle body on lower intake manifold. Install one stud bolt and five retaining bolts. Tighten to 25 Nm (19 lb ft).

5. Install alternator brace to throttle body and alternator bracket. Tighten nuts to 16 Nm (12 lb ft).

6. Connect PCV hose to tube underneath throttle body.

7. Install EGR tube to EGR Valve and exhaust manifold fitting to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).

8. Connect vacuum hoses.

9. Connect electrical connections to intake air temperature, intake air charge and throttle position sensors.

10. Connect throttle and TV cables to throttle body linkage.

11. Connect air cleaner duct hose to throttle body and air cleaner assembly. Tighten clamp to 4 Nm (36 lb in).

12. Connect negative battery cable.

13. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks. Adjust idle speed as necessary.

14. Adjust TV cable.

NOTE: This adjustment must be performed if the throttle body assembly is removed for any reason and if throttle plate idle adjustment screw position has been altered.

15. Install shield onto idle speed control solenoid. Tighten bolts to 1.4 Nm (13 lb in).
