KL16 - Check Operation of Top Gear Switch

NOTE: The top gear switch is a normally closed switch and is in the ignition Run circuit to the Shift Indicator Light (SIL) bulb. The top gear switch should be open only when the vehicle is shifted to top gear.

- Key "OFF".

- Transmission in any gear except top gear.

- Disconnect top gear switch.

- Measure resistance of the top gear switch.

- Is resistance less than 5.0 ohms?

Yes -- Service open in ignition run circuit to the SIL bulb socket. Verify SIL operation.

No -- Replace top gear switch. Verify SIL operation.
