Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the console.

Ignition/shifter Interlock Assembly:






2. Remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable to shifter retaining screw and remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable from the shifter interlock cam.
3. Remove the LH ignition/shifter interlock cable. Remove the lower steering column shroud.
4. Remove the steering column retaining nuts and lower the steering column tube to the floor.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
6. Remove the two ignition/shifter interlock cable retaining screws from the steering column tube.
7. Remove the solenoid from the solenoid retainer bracket.
8. Pull the ignition/shifter interlock cable out from under the instrument panel and unhook it from the retaining bracket.
9. Roll back the floor carpet and slide the cable out.

INSTALLATION
1. Route the ignition/shifter interlock cable under the floor carpet. Position the ignition/shifter interlock cable under the A/C plenum bracket and under the accelerator pedal.
2. Connect the ignition/shifter interlock cable to the shifter interlock cam and install the retaining screw at the shift control selector lever and housing.
3. Install the solenoid into the retainer bracket.
4. Install the cable to the steering column. Install the two retaining screws. Tighten the retaining screws to 2.1-2.9 Nm (18.6-25.7 in lb).
5. Connect the electrical connector to the solenoid.
6. Position the column to the support bracket and install the retaining nuts. Tighten the retaining nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
7. Install the steering column shroud and the instrument panel trim panel.
8. Check for the proper interlock operation. The ignition key should be removable only with the shifter in PARK. The shifter should be locked in the PARK position with the key removed.
