Without Air Conditioning
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a clean container.
3. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core. Plug the heater core tubes or blow any coolant from the heater core with low-pressure air.
4. Disconnect the vacuum supply hose from the in-line vacuum check valve in the engine compartment.
5. Remove the instrument panel, please refer to Body and Frame/Interior Trim/Dash Board/Service and Repair/ Service and Repair
6. Remove the screw holding the instrument panel shake brace to the heater case. Remove the instrument panel shake brace.
7. Remove the floor register and the rear floor ducts from the bottom of the heater case.
Heater Case Assembly:
8. Remove the three nuts attaching the heater case to the dash panel in the engine compartment.
9. Remove the two screws attaching the brackets to the cowl top panel.
10. Carefully pull the heater assembly away from the dash panel and remove the heater case from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the heater case assembly to the dash panel and the cowl top panel at the air inlet opening. Install the two screws to attach the support brackets to the cowl top panel.
2. Install the three nuts in the engine compartment to attach the heater case to the dash panel.
3. Install the floor register and the rear floor ducts on the bottom of the heater case.
4. Install the instrument panel shake brace and screw to the heater case.
5. Install the instrument panel, please refer to Body and Frame/Interior Trim/Dash Board/Service and Repair/ Service and Repair
6. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
7. Connect the black vacuum supply hose to the vacuum check valve in the engine compartment.
8. Fill the radiator to the correct level with the previously removed coolant or specified mixture of coolant and water.
9. Connect the battery ground cable.
NOTE: On vehicles equipped with Electronic Engine Control (EEC), when the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the EEC processor relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
10. Check the system for proper operation.
