Step 2
Transmission Tester Installation (Set-Up Procedures)
2: Installing the Transmission Tester

Step 3
Static Testing - Engine OFF

Static testing procedures allow for shop testing of the transmission in the vehicle or on the bench. Completion of tests prove out the transaxle electronically.

CAUTION: For resistance checks, be sure that the SOLENOID SELECT dial is set to the OHMS CHECK position or damage to the ohmmeter could result.

Resistance/Continuity Tests
1. Refer to the On-Board Diagnostic Trouble Code Description Chart for the proper pinpoint test to be performed based on the DTCs displayed.
2. Using Digital Volt/Ohmmeter and the Transmission Tester, perform the Pinpoint Tests as indicated in On-Board Diagnostic Trouble Code Description Chart based on DTCs displayed.
3. Service as indicated by the Pinpoint Tests. Always erase all DTCs, retest and road test vehicle after any service.

Transmission Solenoids and Sensors Resistance Tests
EPC Solenoid

1. Set ohmmeter to 100-1200 ohm range.
2. Connect ohmmeter COM lead to EPC jack.
3. Connect ohmmeter POS lead to VPWR jack.
4. Record resistance.
5. Refer to the following chart for values.
Solenoid Solenoid Resistance (Ohms)
EPC 3.23-5.5
If out of range, refer to Pinpoint Test E.

Solenoids (SS1, SS2, SS3, TCC)
1. Set ohmmeter to 100-200 ohms.
2. Connect ohmmeter COM lead to appropriate solenoid jack (SS1,SS2,SS3, TCC).
3. Connect ohmmeter POS lead to appropriate VPWR jack for the solenoid being tested.
4. Record resistance.
5. Refer to the following chart for values.
Solenoid Solenoid Resistance (Ohms)
SS-1 15-25
SS-2 15-25
SS-3 15-25
TCC 0.98-1.6
If out of range, refer to the following pinpoint tests:
Pinpoint Test A (SS1,SS2, SS3)
Pinpoint Test C (TCC)

Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor
1. Set ohmmeter to 200k ohms.
2. Connect ohmmeter COM lead to TFT jack,
3. Connect ohmmeter P05 lead to +TFT jack.
4. Record resistance. Resistance will vary with temperature.

5. Refer to table. If out of range, refer to Pinpoint Test B.

Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor
1. Set ohmmeter to 200k ohms.
2. Connect the ohmmeter COM lead to the TSS jack.
3. Connect the ohmmeter P0S lead to the +TSS jack.
4. Record resistance.
Ranges: TSS 100-200 ohms.
5. If resistance is out of range, refer to Pinpoint Test F

Short to Ground and Solenoid Voltage Tests
1. Slide MODE switch to BENCH.
2. Set voltmeter to 20 volt DC range.
3. Determine the solenoid you wish to test and connect the voltmeter leads as follows:
- If testing SS1, SS2 or SS3 solenoid, turn the SOLENOID SELECT dial to SS1, SS2 or SS3 before connecting leads.
- Connect negative lead to solenoid jack.
- Connect positive lead to VPWR jack.
4. Press the solenoid's activate/deactivate button and check voltage.
The LED should light, the voltage should change and an audible click may be heard. The LED Status is as follows:
- LED turns GREEN when solenoid activates and OFF when deactivated.
- LED turns RED if an activated solenoid/harness is shorted to ground or no continuity.
- LED remains OFF if an activated solenoid/harness is shorted to ground or no continuity.
5. Observe and record values.
