B: Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) And Circuit
B1 Speedometer Check
Note: The VAPS system requires a speed signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
If the speedometer or speed control actuator switch does not work, these systems should be serviced using the appropriate diagnostic and service procedures.
For Speedometer refer to:
Electronic Instrument Cluster or
Conventional Instrument Cluster.
For Speed Control refer to:
Electronic
Vacuum Operated or
IVSC.
- Note operation of speedometer and speed control actuator switch (from Step A4).
Are both speedometer and speed control actuator switch operating properly?
Yes
Go to B2.
No
SERVICE as required.
Go to A13. A13 - A14
B2 Speed Sensor Circuit Check
- Disconnect VAPS connector from power steering variable assist control and bracket (3F721).
- Connect DVOM across Circuits 150 and 563.
- Measure resistance.
Is resistance between 150-225 Ohms?
Yes
Go to C1. C: Check VAPS Actuator And Circuit
No
SERVICE harness.
Go to A13. A13 - A14
