Passenger's Side

NOTE: If the passenger side air bag module did not deploy in a collision, it may not have been needed. Complete all diagnoses before replacing the passenger side air bag module.

REMOVAL

WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE POSITIVE CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect battery positive cable. Wait one minute for energy to be depleted.
3. Remove RH and LH finish panel.
4. Remove instrument panel finish panel retaining spear clips.
5. Open glove compartment, press side inward and lower glove compartment to floor.
6. Through glove compartment opening, remove two lower passenger air bag module rear retaining screws.
7. Remove four remaining passenger air bag module front retaining screws from side of air bag cover.
8. Disconnect electrical connector attached to LH side of passenger side air bag module and remove passenger side air bag module.

WARNING: PLACE AIR BAG MODULE ON BENCH WITH TRIM COVER FACING UP.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Fill out and return air bag traceability postcard for new air bag with VIN numbers. Note diagnostic trouble code.

1. Connect electrical connector to passenger side air bag module and position passenger side air bag module in instrument panel.





2. Install four upper retaining screws. Tighten to 1.2-1.8 Nm (11-16 lb in).





3. Install lower passenger air bag retaining screws. Tighten to 7-11 Nm (62-97 lb in).
4. Return glove compartment to correct position.
5. Install instrument panel finish panel locator pin into air bag bushing locator then align spear clips and press finish panel into place.
6. Reconnect positive battery cable.
7. Reconnect negative battery cable.
8. Prove out air bag system.
