Throttle Body: Description and Operation

Upper Intake Manifold And Throttle Body Assembly:

PURPOSE
The throttle body provides control of engine airflow in all driving modes, except at idle speeds. The idle air control valve provides supplemental airflow to maintain the proper engine idle speed.

CONSTRUCTION
The single-piece aluminum die cast body has a single bore with an air bypass channel around the throttle plate. This bypass channel controls both cold and warm engine idle airflow control as regulated by an idle air control valve mounted directly to the body.

Other features of the throttle body include:

- Throttle position is controlled by a single lever and cable linkage.

- A pre-set stop to locate the Wide Open Throttle (WOT) position.

- A throttle body mounted throttle position sensor.
